Work package 3

The goals of work package in the FAITH project are that the Ethiopian-European UAS partnerships share best practices from Europe, Ethiopian UAS use the lessons learnt from Europe to develop “tools”/models for UAS in Ethiopia and test the tools in pilot projects at Ethiopian UAS.

After internal discussion the consortium decided to create six tandems on the following topic of UAS:

a) Implementing high quality internships as part of practically-oriented, application-based degree programs.

b) Establishing partnership and networking with industry/SMEs, and being active for regional development, incl. educating citizens and community services.

c) Focusing on demand driven applied research and technology/knowledge transfer.

d) Creating career paths for professors (teachers and researchers) with experience in applied research and the professional field.

e) Incorporating part-time lecturers from practice in the teaching and learning process and upskilling existing academic staff.

f) Engaging for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in teaching, research and management of the campus Creation process of the toolboxes.

After deciding for the six characteristics of the tandem working groups in August 2023, the work on building the tandem groups with Ethiopian and European experts began. A preparatory 10 documents for briefing the tandem experts was provided, which consisted of three parts:

(1) the status quo of the Ethiopian UAS regarding the six chosen characteristics,

(2) success stories from Europe regarding the six chosen characteristics (both previous results of work package 2), and

 (3) needs, problems and suggestions of implementation projects regarding Ethiopian UAS, which was provided by the Ethiopian tandem experts.

The first online meeting was between September and October 2023. The working groups worked online on collaborative documents and met at least a second time for an online meeting.

In January the first version of the toolbox was finished and reviewed by experts from universities of applied sciences and from the professional field. A workshop as held in Addis Abeba on 25th and 26th January, where the toolboxes und reviews were discussed intensively. After the revision by the tandem teams, based on the output of the workshop, this updated version (toolbox 2.0) was created
